Magic Mushroom Microdose – How to Take Mushrooms Safely
In the latest episode of our series on champignon magique achat, we sit down with mushroom microdose expert Dr Russell Newcombe – aka Dr Nuke – to learn how to take mushrooms safely. The popularity of mushroom microdosing is soaring, but as the practice is still relatively unstudied, it’s important to know what you’re getting into. In most countries, buying, growing or taking magic mushrooms is illegal. But for those who want to reap the potential mental health benefits of these plants without risking jail time, there’s the option of a magic mushroom microdose. This involves taking a low dose of psilocybin, the psychoactive component of mushrooms. The psilocybin in magic mushrooms interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain and can cause altered states of consciousness. When taken in small doses, it can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood. Tiny Treasures: Exploring the Wonders of Microdosing Magic Mushrooms While there’s limited scientific research specifically on magic mushroom microdosing, several different protocols exist. There’s a range of suggested doses, but one common option is around a third of a gram. This is typically around the amount of mushroom needed to produce psychedelic effects, but won’t be high enough to cause hallucinations. Many microdoses also combine mushrooms with other putatively therapeutic fungi, like lion’s mane (Hericium erinaceus). This is known as stacking. Some of these combinations, known as the Stamets Stack, are being studied for their potential to alleviate depression and mild cognitive impairment. Paul Stamets, an amateur mycologist and champion of non-hallucinogenic mushrooms, has published a number of recipes for these combinations, including the addition of vitamin B3, or niacin.
