Christmas and Holiday Lighting in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles street light system covers 4,500 miles of road and is a huge part of the city’s infrastructure. It also serves to provide cell phone service and is a source of power for electric vehicles. What are two of the biggest challenges for a lighting designer? During the winter months, residents of lighting Los Angeles can expect plenty of festive events and displays to celebrate the holidays. These include the annual holiday lighting ceremony at Fashion Island and the L.A. County Holiday Tree, a 75-foot tree. Many of the best Christmas and holiday lighting displays are located in neighborhoods, local communities, and popular attractions. Typically, a lighting designer will be able to develop a lighting plan that is both functional and beautiful. A lighting designer’s job is to analyze a home’s layout and use, and then create a plan that provides the optimal lighting. Lighting designers often have expertise in physics, optics, and ergonomics. Often, they work with architects, interior designers, or contractors to bring a home’s lighting up to par. Lightscape, an international light art festival, features new installations and an expanded path. SPARKLE DTLA is one of LA’s largest multicolored interactive holiday displays. A special lighting ceremony will take place on November 29, at Union Station. The 7th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held under the stars. In addition to the tree, the South Patio will feature thousands of glowing lights. There will also be a live performance by Urban Voices Project. Free hot chocolate will be served.
